Reflecting on group work.

IMG_0384.JPG.jpgMaking art with other people is fustrating to say the least. It seems like every idea I have to offer gets shot down. Although this is a set back to the art, you have to be in a different mind set while doing these projects. It is not always about you, and I had to reilize that the hard way. Making art on my own is a lot different than making art in groups. This is Souley because you have to think about other people while creating. This is difficult for me because when I begin to create I like to tune out and go into a different space, some where, were no one is really controlling me. I believe my contrabutions to this project is important because I am the guy who constantly spits out ideas and readjusts them when appropriate.

Term 1 Reflection

In the beginning of Art principles I was very skeptical. Through out all of my projects my goal had been the same, do the best I can. Before this term I was a very bad artist and I did not think of art as any of my first choices of classes but last year in the spring I decided to give it a try for the hell of it. In my first projects I thought a lot of thoughts and they where all generating around the idea of why am I here? As the year went on the thoughts where gradually going away and my stress level around art was going way down. Trying to think about the various elements of this class and incorporating them was very difficult. Even though we spent some review time on these elements I still could not incorporate them into my work. Although my work could not go into a museum it has improved tremendously! I am so proud of my self in the sense that hard work is all I put into this and I got the results I pretty much wanted. I have learned so many things. Their are way to many lessons to write down but the most important lesson in my opinion is to be patient and work hard. Taking these lessons and using them has been very helpful in my growth as an artist. My all around skill as an artist has improved from anything like cutting to drawing with charcoal. One of the biggest successes of my artistic skills was drawing a chair with a coat on the arm of it. This is surprising because I use lessons in art and use them in real life.

Chair With Coat.

Im just going to start out this blog by saying I am ASTATIC about my drawing! This drawing was considerbly easier for me to re-create on a the paper. The reason for this was it was a lot less busy in the sense that their was one main object that I had to focus on. I dont know how I did it but I think that was my best drawing ever! I used charcoal and that was it. It was a much different excperience than pencil and I enjoyed it a lot more. The skills I used was more spacing and proportion. I think that some of my drawing skills are coming into play. after all these years of art class I finally made a good drawing!

Found Object Sculpture Reflection Discussions.

especially successful and why.

The figure 5 in gold was created by Charles Demuth. When thinking about his style of paintings I have realized that he uses balance in a way like no other painter that I have seen does. His movement in this painting is very special with the contrast of the colors and the placement of different objects. The asymmetry in in this painting is very special in the sense that you don't really know what's going on but you still have a slight idea.

Fabric Drawings.

I feel as though this has been my most successful drawing yet! I was so jazzed when I finished because I made every thing bend in certain directions and my shading turned out nice this time. When trying to recreate the fabrics was a task that was difficult to say the least. Trying to make the folds and the floral patterns was the most difficult. Todays drawing actually felt different than the sticks but connected at the same time.

Critiques

1) Make the ideas more clear
2) Be more methodical
3) Make it more realistic
4) make the base better
5) more detail on the spray paint

pile of sticks

I feel as though I started out fantastically. Making the drawing was very difficult for me because their was so many aspects to the drawing it was very difficult for me just to focus on one. The out come for me came out very sub par, I feel as though I could do better but I do not have experience to.

Mid-term

I feel my engagement in this class has been excellent, I have been focused and doing my tasks with out problems. Now not to say I don't have any difficult on some days because I do. Some days I have had so much difficulties focussing I some times take a break because I feel an artist can not preform under stress. I have finished most in-class projects you have assigned. This is mostly because I work at a much quicker pace than other people. When working in the sketch book, I have come to realize that it is a great resorse for me to work in. This is because I work at such a pace that its very easy for me to get ideas in and out of my head very quickly so what's great about the sketch book is I can fire back and fourth from drawing to drawing working on them as much as I want. On Tuesday mornings we usually go to drop every thing and draw. This can be very bi-polar for me because some times where going at a fast pace (the changing items) and some times we have to spend 1 hour on an object that does not interest me.

The Changing Still Life

One thing we had to do is draw in detail quickly. This does not sound to difficult but I can tell you it is. Another thing we had to do is erase with fine detail. Erasing with fine detail is a daunting tasking and to make it even worse we had to use charcoal to draw which made every thing really messy. The final thing that we had to do is draw at a easel and not sitting down this is especially difficult because the rate that every thing was changing you would blink your eyes and it would be gone.

Pablo Picasso

When researching Pablo Picasso I realized he was/is one of the most interesting painters ever to paint. Picasso was born on the 25Th of October 1881 and died on the 8Th April 1973; Living a long and full life he accomplished what many artist, specifically painters would ever dream of. Dividing his life between both Barcelona and Paris was not difficult for Picasso at all seeing that he had many lovers in both city's. While having these lovers he had four children two of which he had with the same lover, Françoise Gilot. Both children where born with in two years of each other. When Pablo Picasso died no one thought of it until many years later; when he died it was not only a loss as a father but a loss to not only the painting world but the whole of the artistic world.

Found Images Collage Reflection

The concept I worked on in this project was originally going to be a gatorade advertisement; until I looked through more magazines and came to the conclusion that it should be more like a collage which was a difficult task for me because it was so daunting. In the end I decided to make the whole college a basketball panda being shot into a hoop with countless fans surrounding it. Making the panda was as difficult cutting out 60 heads. Never the less I thought my final product came out not as good as it would of in my head. This could be because I am not very artistic and it is difficult to get my ideas out of my head and on the paper to neatly. In my opinion my most successful part of this project was making it look like their was a lot of fans in the stands.

art principles 2010-2011: three forms drawing

three forms drawing
In a post on your blog describe how the drawing experience today felt. Describe specifically what you feel is successful about the results and/or anything you learned during the process.

I honestly think that was the most difficult drawing that you could have assigned. The only thing I felt was successful was at the beginning my shading but than I messed that up.

art principles 2010-2011: Pour Paintings

Pour Paintings

On my original pour painting I had no real hope to what the shapes would happen. That was until I let the painting dry, at first I did not see anything but when I took a closer more detailed orientation look I started to see things that at first I did not see at all. What I saw first was a the sun with a sail boat (seeming to be the perfect day or the idealistic life) than I thought of some one looking at the "cup of tea" or the idealistic life. In the end I decided to put a person looking down at the cup of tea while looking with a curious look on his face because so little people have the idealistic life.

Talk and Draw

Today you were the "drawer" and you were the "describer".
What was challenging about this experience? What would you do differently if you had to do this activity again?

Some things where more challenging than other things. The most challenging thing for me was the drawing because we had three people and the other person was getting ahead of me. I think that if we where to do this again I would not rush as much and ask more questions because my interpreter was very vague.

art principles 2010-2011: Collaborative Drawings.

How did having someone else work on your drawing add to or take away from the final result?
How did it FEEL to return to your drawing and see other people's marks on it?

Having some one else work on my drawing was interesting. Sense I am not a very good drawer it helped a lot and it opened my eyes to see where other peoples imagination can help not only your drawing but see what other people can think of when you can't think of anything. I actually felt not-artistic when I came back to my drawing because I could only think of the basic parts of art while people could re-edit mine and make it look better.

art principles 2010-2011: Thinking about the Artist.

art principles 2010-2011: Thinking about the Artist.: "Due Monday September 13. Who is an artist? What does it mean to be creative? In 3 or 4 sentences describe what an artist needs to be produc..."
An artist has to be creative while having a good sense of what their doing. To be a artist you need to practice a lot just like a sport. To be creative means you have a imagination which a lot of people could use.
